At Infinium HR, we’re always on the lookout for opportunities that benefit our clients, and we’re excited to share a new program from the state of California that could be a game-changer for your business.
The Paid Family Leave (PFL) Small Business Grant offers up to $2,000 to small businesses impacted by employees taking paid family leave. This grant is designed to help offset costs related to hiring or cross-training other employees to cover for those on PFL.
What is Paid Family Leave (PFL)?
Paid Family Leave allows employees to take time off to bond with a new child (through birth, adoption, or foster care) or to care for a seriously ill family member. While this time is critical for employees, it can create challenges for small businesses that need to maintain operations.
How the Grant Can Help
The grant provides financial support directly to employers, covering costs such as:
Training/Cross-Training: Ensuring other employees can handle the duties of those on leave.
Marketing and Recruitment: Finding temporary replacements or additional support.
Other Training Costs: Any reasonably foreseeable expenses related to managing the workload during an employee’s absence.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for this grant, your business must meet the following criteria:
Business Size and PFL Participation: Your business must be located in California, have 1-100 employees, and have had at least one employee use California's Paid Family Leave program on or after June 1, 2024.
California Registration: Your business must be registered and in active status with the California Secretary of State’s Office.
California Employer Account Number (CEAN): Your business must have an active CEAN under which your employees are listed for payroll. Note: If you use a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) for payroll, your business must be listed on the CEAN used for payroll reporting to qualify.
Employee's EDD Customer Account Number: You must provide the 10-digit EDD Customer Account Number of the employee who used PFL.
Grant Amounts
Businesses with 51-100 employees: Up to $1,000 per employee utilizing PFL.
Businesses with 1-50 employees: Up to $2,000 per employee utilizing PFL.
This is a valuable opportunity to ease the financial burden of supporting your employees during critical life events. At Infinium HR, we are here to help you navigate the application process and ensure you take full advantage of this program.
